Mariam Abdelkarim
Mariam AbdelKarim is the Business Development Manager for MENA at Hivos. Mariam’s main responsibility is working on the design and fundraising for Climate Justice related projects covering advocacy, food systems, green entrepreneurship and employability, (green) impact investing, and other potential programs that connect to the just transition in the MENA region. Mariam also works on the design of programs focusing on Gender Equality in the MENA region that crosscuts with Climate Justice, across all its domains. Mariam is also working on the Impact Together! project (under a consortium led by Impact Europe and funded by the EU covering Egypt, Lebanon, Palestine, Jordan, Tunisia, Algeria, and Morocco) which focuses on promoting social entrepreneurship and impact investing in the MENA region. Prior to being with Hivos, Mariam worked at Enroot where she played a key role as the Business Development Manager where she designed long-term programs and managed successful completion of partnership agreements. She also played a role in conducting project evaluations for entities like UNDP and UNFPA as well as working on monitoring and evaluation assignments. Moreover, she has a background in stakeholder relation management, technical backstopping and economic research and market studies. Coming from the world of academia, Mariam holds a Master’s degree in the Development Economics from the University of Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne.
