About The Speaker
Hanya Ashraf
A counselling psychologist who graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and later a Masters degree in Counselling Psychology from The American University in Cairo. Provides individual, group and couples therapy. Experienced in working with individuals who struggle with mood disorders, depression, anxiety, grief, attachment, relationship, self-esteem, and adjustment problems. Most of Hanya’s clients are emerging adults trying to deal with life's transitions. This does not mean that Hanya doesn’t prefer seeing an older population. Hanya also led themed groups about depression and anxiety at The Psychological Training Centre at AUC. Hanya prefers to use the Gottman approach when it comes to couples therapy. The Gottman Method aims to provide effective treatment in improving marital relationships, intimacy and compatibility. Hanya uses various therapeutic techniques tailored to the needs of her clients. Mainly, she resorts to a humanistic, person-centred framework which entails that she provides clients with unconditional positive regard and empathy. Alongside that, she incorporates the principles of Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy and Interpersonal Therapy. Hanya believes that therapy can transform and even save lives. Sometimes, life can get quite hard, and a helping hand makes all the difference. Providing a safe and non-judgmental space for her clients in which they can spot, understand and deal with their problems is her ultimate goal.
